Ultimately whether it is Pro Tools, Logic, Digital Perform, Cubase, Sonar, etc. so if you have the funds, I'd say also pick up Logic and look into MAX. While you're a student you can get some decent discounts and the more you know the better off that you will be (in all things). Stating the obvious- this entire "industry standard" thing is such self perpetuating bullshit. since you're in school and have the opportunity to really learn PT, do so, whether or not you ever personally plan on running it. That aside, I agree with most of what has been expressed. My main thing is I'd like to be able to make music on my computer. My question is, as far as music and audio production goes, I know Logic by default comes with more virtual instruments so that is an advantage, but is Pro Tools as good or maybe even superior for music and audio production once you start accumulating third party plug ins? I wanted to and still might want to buy a copy of Logic Pro 9 for my macbook.īut we are being required to buy a copy of Pro Tools (student discounted price). Pro Tools is apparently still the standard in the field. So I started school as a major in audio recording.
